Nine descriptions of the activities of participants in the Gerontology Research Fellowship Program are presented, along withbackground chapters by members of the coordinating commit-tee. The odysseys of the academic gerontologists into the worldof state and Area Agencies on Aging attest to the singular determination of these individuals to bring gerontological theory. This is the first of three volumes, covering clinical and social psychology. The later volumes will include instruments andmeasures in role participation and structure, demography, socialpolicy, and health. The volume begins with a careful discussionof the criteria for the evaluation of the instruments. The individual chapters follow the same format: overview discussion ofinstruments and issues; abstracts of the instruments; and copiesof some of the instruments.
