This document examines the evolution of national public health policies that address social and health inequalities in eight European countries - Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, England, The Netherlands, Italy and Spain. There is a section on each country as well as two introductory chapters containing a literature review and a discussion of concepts, measures and pathways, and two final chapters containing a summary, concluding remarks and recommendations. Related social determinants of alcohol intake, tobacco smoking, drug abuse, physical activity, and infectious and non-infectious diseases, including unemployment, working conditions, poverty and educational attainment, are discussed.(from the cover)
