Résumé :
|
The increase in life expectancy in Sweden from an average age of about 35 in the mid-eighteenth century to about 80 years in the new millennium is a spectacular achievement. It is a story about the interplay between disease, medicine, and economic, social, cultural and political conditions, sometimes within, sometimes beyond the influence of conscious human action. One of the trends in this story is the convergence of public health policies and outcomes in Europe but local contexts have also had a considerable impact upon the conditions for a healthy life. The history of Swedish public health is no exception. In this book, we highlight both what has been shaped within a national or Scandinavian setting and what has been part of influences and policies imported from abroad. (from the cover)
