In response to this threat, the global community has united its efforts by endorsing the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which aims to protect present and future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental and economic effects of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke by providing a framework for tobacco control measures. The spread of the tobacco epidemic is a global problem with serious consequences for public health. The situation is the same in south-eastern Europe, as confirmed by the study followed by the report Health and economic development in south-eastern Europe, reflecting the impact of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke on health, economy and the environment of countries in south-eastern Europe.
