Objective in response to requests by purents on Managua Nicaragua, whose neighborhood boiders a battery factory 97 children were tested for blood lead, as were 30 children in a neighborhood without an obvious souree of environmental Head. Methods Venous blood was examined by atomie absorption spectrophotemetry. Educational workshops were conducted. Results. Mean blood lead levels were 17.2 149.92 mug/dL in the index children and 7.40-5.37 mug/dL in the control d'<. conclusions. children living near the battery factory are at increased risk of lead poisonning. parents were able to permon government control emissions and improve appropriate health services. is now closed.>
