Objectives We evalanted the preveence of gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, and syphiles in putients entering residential drug treatment. Methods. Data on sextal and substance abuse histories were collected Participards procided specimens for chlamytha and generinea ligase cham reaction testing. Trichomonas vaginalis culture, and syphilis serologie testing. Results. Of 311 patients, crack cocaine use was reported by 67% and multisubstance use was reported by 71% Sexually transmined disease (SID) oak behaviors were common. The prevalence of infection was as follows. Chlamydia trackamstix, 23% ; Neisseria gonarrhoese. 1.6% ; trichomoniasis, 43% ; and syphilis, 6%. Conclusions STD conuseling and screening may be a useful adjunet to inpatient drug treatment.
