| Résumé : | Life expectancy in Finland increased at a faster rate than the EU average in the decade before the pandemic. While it only fell slightly during the first two years of the pandemic, it experienced a significant drop in 2022 to 81.2 years: nearly 1 year lower than before the pandemic. This was a greater reduction than the EU average and that in other Nordic countries. One third of deaths in Finland in 2019 could be attributed to behavioural risk factors. The country has implemented a range of policies in recent years to control tobacco and alcohol consumption, particularly among young populations. While the share of adults who smoke daily is much lower than the EU average, the obesity rate has increased over the past two decades, and is now much higher than the EU average. |
