Résumé : | In 2022, average life expectancy at birth in Romania was 75.3 years (71.5 years for men and 79.3 years for women). Life expectancy grew slightly more quickly than the EU average between 2010 and 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic caused life expectancy to drop by 0.3 years overall, between 2019 and 2022 – a level that is half the EU average. Daily smoking rates for Romanian adults are on a par with the EU average: about one in five people were regular smokers in 2019. However, some 35 % of the population reported heavy drinking at least once per month in 2019, which is nearly double the EU average. At 11 %, obesity levels among adults are the lowest in the EU. |
