Résumé :

The main theme of the conference 'Politics, Policies and/or the Public's Health' sets the tone : 'To what extent can the pertinence of our experience as public health practitioners, the relevance of our results as public health researchers and the ardour of our commitment as concerned citizens be brought to bear on health politics and health policies in a way that will tip the balance in favour of 'and the public's health' rather than 'or the public's health?' Renowned plenary speakers will share their reflections on how that can be done in fields such as health and ageing, adolescent health and health promotion, as well as drawing lessons from the history of public health policy. In addition to the conference keynote speeches, we are pleased to provide the rich and diverse programme with ample opportunity to exchange views, results, and experiences in the vast array of activities covered by the field of public health, from emerging international threats of infections diseases to organized care for the chronically ill, from the prevention of prolonged sickness leave to health and gender, from genetic epidemiology to enlightened social policy, from mental public health to the quality of acute healthcare. If and how-and how well-we address these challenges will depend on establishing a positive feedback loop among researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and the public. This is the challenge of public health politics and our aim is to bring successful implementation a bit closer.
