Résumé :

This is a qualitative study of how foster parents'children cope with the fostering experience. Unstructured interviews were used to collect data from eight foster families from a single treatment care agency, all of whom had at least three years experience fostering and had a child of their own age 15 or older. Individual interviews were held with the foster parents'child, followed by a family interview. The foster parents'own children were found to cope with narcissistic loss from fostering through the use of three coping mechanisms : viewing the the foster child as a needy problem child, isolating themselves from the foster care experience, and objectifying the foster child.
