Résumé : | The Health Care Systems in Transition (HiT) profiles are country-based reports that provide an analytical description of each health care system and of reform initiatives in progress or under development. The HiTs are a key element that underpins the work of the European Observatory on Health Care Systems. The aim of the HiT is to provide relevant comparative information to support policy-makers and analysts in the development of health care systems and reforms in the countries of Europe and beyond. This HIT is on Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is the most populous of the central Asian Republics. The health care system in Uzbekistan has been moving from central planning and government financing to a mixed public and private system since independence in 1991. Similar to other central Asian republics, these years have adversely affected the health status of the Uzbek population. Economic recession as a result of decreasing central subsidies and decreasing export markets have taken their toll on the population. Health needs are greater among women and children and the rural population. (adapté du texte). |
