The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of countywide Medicald managed care on service use at community clinics, Methods. Clinic use before and after introduction of Medicald plans in one county was compated with that in a group of comparable countres without such plans. Results. There were significant declines of 40% of 45% in the volumes of Medicald clients, encounters, and revemtes at clinics with the introduction of Medicald plans Declines of 23% in uninsured clients and encounters did not difler significantly Conclution The Introduction of Medicald managed care with multiple commercial plans can have significant megative effects on nongrofit commu nity clinics.
