[BDSP. Notice produite par INIST 85R0xmw0. Diffusion soumise à autorisation]. Objectives. This study sought to identify and characterize seriously then-tally ill poflenes with HIV infection. Methods. Medicaid beneficiaries with HIV/AIDS were identified through the merging of New Jersey HIV/AIDS Registry and Medicaid eligibility files. Claims bistories were used to classity individuals as Imving schizophrenis, major affective dissorder, of the serious mental illness. Results, Of 8294 individeals, 476 (5,7%) were cleaified as having schizophrenia, and 564 (6,8%) were classified as having major affective dissorder. Those with serious mental illous were more likely than other groups to be Lajection drug users and to have claims indicative of substance abuse. Conclusions. Individuals with serious mental illness are a significant but little-recognized pubgroup of those with HIV infection.
