Résumé :
|
The signal variations in mortality which exist within and between countries for some cancers such as those of the oesophagus contrast with other forms of malignant disease such as breast cancer for which, in contrast to international differences, death rates tend to be fairly uniform within a country. Such contrasts form the point of departure for futher studies to uncover possible determinants of risk. To set these findings in perspective, the editors have provided, on the basis of material contributed by national vital statistics offices and the statistical services of the EEC, information on death registration and selected characteristics of the countries concerned. Trying to introduce a measure of uniformity of content and presentation, together with delays in receipt of material, have meant that the data pertain to the latter half of the 1970s, and futher do not cover all current EEC members. The next issue of this atlas will cover these lacunae. (R.A.).
